In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami

“In the Miso Soup” follows Kenji, a Japanese tour guide who specializes in showing foreigners the darker side of Tokyo’s nightlife. When he takes on an American client named Frank, who seems polite but unnervingly strange, Kenji’s initial unease turns into fear as he begins to suspect that Frank might be responsible for a series of gruesome murders in the city.
